Use Sennheiser's MKH418S stereo shotgun microphone to make clear recordings on location and determine the amount of background noise you want audible in post-production thanks to the M/S stereo technology. This stereo mic has a super-cardioid capsule that captures audio from directly in front of it. At a 90-degree angle, there's a bi-directional capsule attached to this that picks up ambient sound. The MKH 418S has a 5-pin XLR output and comes in a protective moulded case.

Features of the MKH 418S

Mid/side stereo is a special type of technology that was engineered especially for stereo recording. Instead of the traditional left and right channel, it uses a mid and side channel, which means you get the focused audio of a shotgun mic as well as some background audio that you can either filter out or bring to the foreground later on.
